Kastellorizo
CLOSE YOUR EYES AND LIVE THE DREAM
The southeastern most tip of Europe.
A barren rock that causes awe, surprise and emotion to the visitor, while the ship enters the port. An ideal setting for the 1991 Oscar-winning film "Mediterraneo", an inspiration for David Gilmor, Pink Floyd guitarist (honorary citizen of Kastellorizo since 2008), to include the song "Kastellorizon" on his solo album "Onanisland" and a natural studio for the sculptor Alexandros Zygouris who gives shape to the rocks of the island.
The colorful neoclassical mansions and the haughty knightly castle reflected in the crystal clear blue waters, reveal the wealth and the long history of the island.
Inhabited from prehistoric times, so called by the French "Gibraltar of the East" was and still is today, due to its strategic geopolitical position, a center of transit trade for almost the entire Mediterranean.
Come here where time stopped, wander the alleys, climb the "Paleokastro", the ancient citadel with carved tanks, ancient presses and dozens of Byzantine chapels. The boat will take you to the island of "Ro", to "Ai Giorgis", to "Plakes", but also to the inconceivable beauty "Blue Cave" or "Hole of Parasta" for the locals, a blue-green bright spectacle.
Relax by the sea and enjoy traditional delicacies with the turtles of the island. Close your eyes and live the dream.
